Upperco VFC Station

Upperco VFC Station

Site Plan for new Upperco VFC
Site Plan depicting five micro-biroretention ESD facilties.

Landmark performed the planning and site design services for the development of a new  20,260 square foot fire station facility on a 6.45-acre agriculture parcel in northwest Baltimore County. The Upperco Volunteer Fire Company is the result of the combination of two fire companies in Baltimore County – Arcadia and Boring Fire Companies.

Utilities

Since there was no public water and sewer facilities in the area surrounding this site, the project included the design of an on-site septic sewerage disposal system with a grinder pump, and a well. Stormwater management involved the design of a series of micro-bioretention facilities to provide Environmental Site Design (ESD) to the Maximum Extent Practicable.

Landscape Design & Forest Conservation Plans

The proposed fire station was located in a zoning district which required the project to appear before an administrative law judge at a special exception hearing. Site landscaping was designed to take into account sight distances and sight lines needed for apparatus vehicles to safely leave the station to respond to a call and be able to clearly see vehicles travelling on adjoining roads without obstructions from trees, yet still meet the local landscaping requirements.

The scope of work included site layout, stormwater management, grading, on-site sanitary disposal system (septic system), design for Landscape Plan and Forest Conservation Plan, and agency approvals.
