Craig Smith Certified as Professional Wetland Scientist
Landmark Scientist now One of only 11 PWSs in Delaware

Newark, DE, Nov. 12, 2018, Landmark Science & Engineering, one of the region’s largest integrated civil engineering and environmental sciences consulting firms, is pleased to announce that Craig S. Smith has earned certification as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) by the Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS). In addition to being one of only 11 PWSs in the state of Delaware, Craig is also certified as a qualified Forest Professional by Maryland DNR and is certified for Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) by OSHA for site remediation and Brownfield sites.

The Professional Certification Program of the SWS was created to meet the needs of professional ecologists, hydrologists, soil scientists, educators, agency professionals, consultants, and others who practice wetland science. It is aimed at serving the public's need to identify qualified individuals to assess and manage the Nation's wetland resources.

Mr. Smith earned a Master of Science in Environmental Science at Drexel University, where he also received a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (Cum Laude). For the past 25 years he has gained comprehensive experience with various types of environmental investigations, and for the past nine years he has worked directly for Landmark after the company merged sciences with engineering.

Craig has managed and performed wetland delineations, wetland mitigation design and monitoring, wetland permitting, forest stand delineations and forest conservation plans, NEPA environmental assessments, Phase I/II environmental site assessments, Bog Turtle surveys, infiltration testing, Delaware Coastal Zone and Air permits, and numerous Delaware DNREC Brownfield projects.

Landmark’s president, Ted C. Williams, PE, said that Craig “is one of the most knowledgeable, well-rounded environmental scientists in our region and has an abundance of practical experience and local insight.” Further, he acknowledged that Landmark “is fortunate to have professionals like Craig who are serious about their work and are willing to put the time and effort into earning a national‐level Professional Wetland Scientist certification. “

Craig Smith volunteers for ShoreRivers (formerly the Sassafras River Association) and assists in monthly collections and analyses of surface water samples. He also serves as Planning Commission Chairman for the Town of Betterton, Maryland where he and his wife reside on the Eastern Shore.
